THAUMATROPE<\/strong><\/p>\n

The jewellery serie Seagull and moon is made based on the novel Jonathan Livingston Seagull (1970) written by the American writer Richard Bach (1936 – ). The central motifs are the silvergull and the Moon.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

A thaumatrope is an optical toy based on sensual delusion. A disk with a picture on each side is attached to two pieces of string. When the strings are twirled quickly between the fingers the two pictures appear to blend into one due to the presistence of vision. <\/p>\n

The solder-based copper pendant depicts the seagull on one side and the moon on the other. The pendant was covered with royal blue transparent jewellery enamel on both side and is hung on dark blue silk cord.<\/p>\n

A thaumatrope was popular in the 19th century. The invention of the “rotating miracle” is associated with two scientists: W. H. Fitton and Dr. J. A. Paris.<\/p>\n
